For the last couple of months, we've talked about this trip a lot. And often mentioned the fact that it didn't entirely feel like it was really going to ever happen! Even yesterday just felt like another trip down to Portland. But as of today, all that changed.
We headed out of Portland fairly late, after fighting the worst traffic we've ever experienced in that city (while driving Sarah to the airport). But we hit I-84, and everything opened up, just as the sun came out.
Earlier this year, we spent a great long weekend with Chris and Elda in Portland, when we visited Multnomah falls.
It was gorgeous, but the bridge halfway up the falls was closed due to a rockslide, so we couldn't go up to it. In the spirit of "if something along the road looks cool, we'll take the time and do it," I asked Adam if we should check and see if the bridge was open. We did, it was, we crossed it, and voila! We're actually on our adventure!
Best overheard conversation: little British girl in restroom stall to her mother: "I'm so thirsty... I drank all my tea and all my juice, and I'm still thirsty. Is there anything else to drink?" Mom: "Water." Girl: ".... Did you know that they sell food right outside? ..... And drinks.... And ice cream...."
Ah, the innocence of childhood...
Just to put it in perspective, this is the view from the bridge down to the viewing area we were at the last time we went to the falls!
Continued on to Kennewick, where we had a room booked at the Kennewick Suites. From the outside, clean but dated in a bad way. Inside clean, spacious, and dated in an absolutely awesome way! Murals from 1980 on the walls, hunter green leather love seat, metallic patterned plaster in the entrance- I've lived in apartments that aren't this fun! And if we were staying longer, they have barbecue grills out by the (tiny outdoor) pool! Highly recommended!
Left the hotel one more time for dinner at a Bob's Burgers and Beer (and had, unsurprisingly, burgers and beer). Not our most adventurous dinner out, but what can you say? We like it! Then back to the hotel, watched some Parks and Rec on Hulu and then to bed.
Who's on an awesome adventure? We are!
